"Once upon a time, in a place not unlike this place and in a time not unlike this time, there was a lovely Anna's hummingbird..."
Anna's hummingbirds live in Sedona year 'round. Surprisingly, they begin nesting early in winter, confident that they can endure anything the weather presents.
When Beth Kingsley Hawkins discovered an Anna's nesting in early March, she recorded it with her camera. Neither she nor the hummingbird expected a 7-inch snowfall that lasted two days. Could the mother and chicks survive? Was her nest location a good choice? Could thay all endure this extreme?
The story unfolds like a fairy tale, illuminated by Beth's insightful images.
It's a story for children and adults of all ages.
